ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES 2008/09
NON EU COUNTRIES – THE ENTRY PERMIT IS ISSUED BY THE EMBASSY/CONSULATE OF THE REPUBLIC OF CYPRUS


Dear student,

First of all we would like to thank you for expressing your interest in the College of Tourism and Hotel Management. Choosing the right study opportunity abroad is an important decision, which will affect your career aspirations, and enrich your future life. The College of Tourism and Hotel Management is an international college with the majority of its student population coming from overseas. There are three intake periods each year: February, June (Intensive English Summer course only) and October.

APPLICATION PROCESS


Admission to the College and to all its programs is open to all persons who meet the admission requirements and qualifications of the College. International students are requested to submit their application at least three months before the scheduled commencement of their classes.


Step 1(a). Applicants for the Undergraduate Programs should submit to the college the following:

1. Application for admission duly completed.

2. € 150 application fee (cash, Western Union, Money Gram, this is a non refundable amount).

3. Six passport size photos.

4. * Properly attested passport copies. The passport’s validity should be for two years at least from the date the program starts.

5. * Properly attested copies of the Senior/High School Leaving Certificates with their Grades Reports, as issued by the School. If these are issued in a language other than Greek or English, a translation in Greek or English must accompany the School Certificates and the Grades Reports. The translation must be attached to the copies of the original certificates, and the documents must be attested. The translator’s name and address must be clearly mentioned on the documents. Additionally, Provisional School Leaving Certificates are acceptable for a maximum period of two years after graduation.

6. * Properly attested copy of the Bank Sponsorship Letter/Certificate stating that the applicant’s sponsor has sufficient funds to finance his/her stay and studies in Cyprus as well as to cover any repatriation expenses. The letter must be dated, signed and stamped by an official Bank officer. The applicant’s name, the sponsor’s name and their relationship should clearly appear in this letter. The sponsor could be the father, mother, brother, sister, any relative or the officially appointed guardian. If the original is not in Greek or English, then an attested (by a Notary Public) translation must be attached to the original. Applicants from some countries may submit, instead of the Bank letter an original Deposit Certificate from their Bank showing a minimum available balance of USD$10,000. The owner of the deposit account should be either the applicant or one of his/her parents, brothers, sisters, relatives or the officially appointed guardian. If the owner of the account is not the applicant, a separate certificate must be provided showing the relationship between the owner of the account and the applicant.

7. * Properly attested copy of the Police Clearance Certificate. It must be issued no more than six (6) months prior to the semester’s commencement date. This has to be signed and stamped by an official Police Officer.

8. * Properly attested copy of the Medical Certificate showing that the applicant does not suffer from:

HIV I-II (AIDS test), HBsAg (Hepatitis B, C), V.D.R.L. (Syphilis) and TB (Tuberculosis-Fymatiosis). It must be issued no more than three (3) months prior to the semester’s commencement date.

Step 1(b). Applicants for the Postgraduate Programs should submit to the college the following:

1. Application for admission duly completed.

2. € 150 application fee (cash, Western Union, Money Gram, this is a non refundable amount).

4. *Properly attested passport copies. The passport’s validity should be for two years at least from the date the program starts.

5. * Properly attested copies of their Diploma/Bachelor/Masters Degrees/ with their Grades Reports, as issued by the Institution. Attestations must be made by the Principal of the School, from which the student has graduated, and by a Notary Public. If the qualifications are issued in a language other than Greek or English, a translation in Greek or English must accompany the Certificates and the Grades Reports. The translation must be attached to the copies of the original Certificates, and the documents must be attested. The translator’s name and address must be clearly mentioned on the documents. Additionally, Provisional Certificates are acceptable for a maximum period of two years after graduation.

*IMPORTANT FOR ATTESTATIONS - Applicable as of Fall 2008 semester.

*All documents that should be properly attested will be accepted provided an Apostille is fixed on them by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order.
This term is applicable only for the countries that have signed the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement for Legalization for Foreign Public Documents (http://hcch.e-vision.nl/index_en.php?act=text.display&tid=37)

*The Public documents of those countries that have not signed the Hague Apostille Convention should be properly attested first by a Notary Public and then by the Foreign Affairs Office. After the above mentioned attestations, the documents should be presented for attestation by the Embassy/Consulate of the Republic of Cyprus in this country. For the non Public Documents the procedure is as follows:

Medical Certificate: It is attested by the Notary Public, Ministry of Health, Foreign Affairs Office and finally by the Embassy/Consulate of the Republic of Cyprus in this country.
Bank Certificate:

It is attested by the Notary Public, the relevant governmental authority (e.g. Ministry of Finance) and finally the Embassy/Consulate of the Republic of Cyprus in this country.
In countries where there is no Embassy/Consulate of the Republic of Cyprus then the attestations of the documents must be done by the closest Cyprus diplomatic mission or Honorary consular officer of the Republic of Cyprus (www.mfa.gov.cy) Documents from China should be notarized only by the Ministry of Justice and are excluded from any Cypriot diplomatic attestation.
Documents from Russia and Serbia are excluded from any attestation provided they are properly signed and stamped from the governmental authority that issues them.

Step 2. As soon as we receive the application for admission and all supporting documents the admissions director will inform the applicant whether he/she qualifies for admission. He/she will receive a letter of admissions or a letter of eligibility confirming the terms and conditions on which he/she will be admitted to the College. An applicant whose previous academic performance is poor or is judged unsatisfactory by the director of admissions will not be eligible for admission.

Step 3. Given that the applicant is admitted, the office of admissions will apply to the Migration department.

Step 4. The applicant should pay full fees via swift transfer to the College of Tourism and Hotel Management. In this way, he/she will be entitled to visit the embassy/consulate of the Republic of Cyprus in his/her country of residence for the visa appointment. The bank transfer is the only form of payment which will be accepted by the college and the immigration officers. Payment of the fees should be effected before the application deadline. Step 5. All applicants must appear for an interview at the Embassy/Consulate of the Republic of Cyprus in their country in order to be issued an entry permit (visa). The interview dates will be communicated to either them or our local representatives. The following documents (should not be laminated) must be presented during the visa interview date:

1. Two photographs.

2. Original passport.

3(a). Applicable only for the applicants of the Undergraduate Programs.

Original Senior/High School Leaving Certificates with their Grades Reports. Two sets of attested copies of the original School Documents must be also attached.

3(b). Applicable only for the applicants of the Postgraduate Programs.
Original Diploma/Bachelor/Masters Degree with their Grades Reports, as issued by the Institution. Two sets of attested copies of the original Certificates must be also attached.

4. Original Bank Sponsorship Letter (Certificate) stating that the applicant’s sponsor has sufficient funds to finance his/her stay and studies in Cyprus as well as to cover any repatriation expenses.

5. Original Police Character Certificate (no criminal record).

6. Original Medical Certificate showing that the applicant does not suffer from:
HIV I-II (AIDS test), HBsAg (Hepatitis B, C), V.D.R.L. (Syphilis) and TB (Tuberculosis-Fymatiosis).

7. Fax/scanned copy receipt issued by the College regarding prepayment of the €150 application fee.

8. Fax/scanned copy receipt issued by the College regarding prepayment of the applicant’s tuition and other fees for one year.

9. Original receipt issued by the Bank regarding prepayment via swift transfer or receipt for the transfer of money via Western Union or Money Gram. The College’s name and account number must be clearly stated on the receipt. The applicant’s name and application number should be also stated in this bank transfer receipt.

10. Copy of the Cyprus Bank’s slip for the deposit of full fees into the college’s account.

11. Original/Copy of the letter of admissions.

The interviewers will check the original documents and the attested copies and at the end of the interview will stamp all the original documents (except from the School/Institution Certificates); the attested copies of the School/Institution Certificates the receipts and other copies. None of these documents should be laminated. The successful visa applicants will be granted with an entry permit (visa) for Cyprus in their passports.

Step 6. The visa successful applicants should book their flights and inform the college for their arrival flight details (Date, airlines, flight number, arrival time at the Larnaka airport) so as to arrange their transportation from the airport.

Upon receipt of their arrival information, the college will take care of their accommodation for the first couple of days in case they have not made any other arrangements prior to their arrival. Eventually, they will need to come to the college and visit first the admissions office where we will welcome and guide them through the college registration process.

Step 7. Upon arrival at the Larnaka airport the applicants will be required to present to the Immigration authorities the following:

1. Two photographs.

2. Original passport.

3(a). Applicable only for the applicants of the Undergraduate Programs.

3(b). Applicable only for the applicants of the Postgraduate Programs.

10. Copy of the Cyprus Bank’s slip for the deposit of fees into the College’s account.

11. Original/Copy of the letter of admissions.

12. An open dated return ticket to the country of residence.

13. Cash money at least €1600 or USD$ 2400 for living expenses for the first months.

REGISTRATION AT C.O.T.H.M. AND APPLICATION FOR THE TEMPORARY RESIDENCE
PERMIT (PINK SLIP)


All applicants upon arrival at the College will have to register and apply for an extension of their visa. In this regard, they will be obliged to submit all the above documents to the admissions director of the College for their application to the Migration department for the issuance of their pink slip.

REFUND POLICY

In case of withdrawal for any reason, any fees paid to the College are not refundable. Money paid to the College is refundable only in the case that the College fails to obtain a visa for the student and provided the student submitted all the documents required and these documents were considered satisfactory by the Cyprus Ministry of Education and the Immigration authorities.

MIGRATION REGULATIONS

Students are required by the Migration regulations to attend their classes regularly. Students who do not attend their classes regularly are reported to the Cyprus Migration Department. All students must maintain an adequate balance of money in their Bank account at all times, minimum amount €850. They also need to keep their money transfer receipts from the Bank, Western Union, and Money Gram and should present transactions of their account. Under the migration regulations students who do not register in a semester (fall or spring) must leave Cyprus and remain outside the country until the end of the semester.

BANK ACCOUNT

All applicants must open a Bank account with a local Bank as per migration requirements. The minimum amount that they must deposit is € 850. The transaction should be shown in a Bank book that the Bank will have to provide them. A copy of the Bank book and the receipt should be submitted together with the rest of their documents to the admissions office in order to process their application to the Migration authorities for the issuance of the their Temporary Residence Permit.

ENTRANCE EXAM

All newly arrived applicants should take the College entrance exam in order for them to be permitted to register as full time students. Please be informed, that they are allowed to take the College entrance exam only once! In case they fail to pass it, they should register for the English foundation program offered at the College. Applicants who have proficiency in English such as TOEFL 213 computer-based and above, IELTS 6.0 and above or other equivalent qualifications are not obliged to take the entrance exam. However, they must first submit to the
admissions or academic affairs office a copy of the Certificate and then the original upon arrival to Cyprus.

FINANCIAL AID

New international students are eligible for financial assistance on the basis of their average grade at their School- Leaving Certificate or their Post Secondary Diploma or Degree as follows: Students from all countries with GPA over 80% are granted a discount of 10%. The ACE scholarships are available to all students after their first semester at the college and consist of tuition fee reduction for the following semester. The percentage reduction will be a function of their academic performance as follows:
